James Ellis Lewis, 76, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 20, from Central Community Church of God in Jackson with Dr. Alvin Lewis officiating. Interment was in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery with House of Peoples Funeral Home in charge.
He was born June 2, 1931, to James and Lydia Tyner Lewis. He was educated in Sardis and Eastern Star Elementary Schools until he settled in New Orleans, LA in 1943. There he finished school.
He worked as a chauffer for the president of Southern University; truck driver for Boh Brothers Construction, Car Quest and a pile driver. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict from 1951-1953.
Survivors include: his wife of 32 years, Meridel; daughter, Andrea Dionne Wynn (Elam, Jr.); brothers, Freeman Joseph Lewis and Eddie Charles Lewis both of Houston, TX; sisters, Velma Lewis-Weathersby of Goodbee, LA; and Dr. Juanita Lewis-Lewis (Pastor Dr. Alvin) of Jackson and three grandchildren.
