BY TREY CHAPMAN
The Lady Colonels jumped out on Oak Forest for a 15-8, 1st quarter lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 50-40 victory on Saturday afternoon in Gallman. A game that was slated to be in Amite, LA was moved to Gallman due to problems with Oak Forest’s Gymnasium and the Lady Colonels took advantage of the home court advantage as they won the contest Saturday.
The Lady Colonels were paced by Sophomore Madelon Cline with 15 points all coming behind the 3 point arc. Emily Fahner with 13, Caroline Beach 11, Lori Baham 6, Ashley Baham 5 and Heather Teasley 2 points. Oak Forest was led by Junior Cassie Bennett who poured in 16 points. The Lady Colonels were 2 for 2 from the charity stripe as Caroline Beach cashed in on both of her opportunities and the visitors were 10 of 13 from the free throw line.
Lady Colonel Head Coach Dee Granger added, “We shot the ball well this afternoon we probably had our best 3rd quarter all year shooting the ball today.” The Southern Miss alum said, “We need to get better defensively and I will work on that as the season progresses. We got good looks at the basket today and we knocked them down when we got the opportunities. Give Oak Forest credit, they are a good team and we will probably see them again later on in the season.”
