The Wesson Cobras and Lady Cobras were road warriors this past week in basketball action as the round-ballers had road contests with Natchez Cathedral, Pelahatchie, and St. Aloysius.
The Natchez Cathedral game saw the Wesson Cobras lose their first contest of the season as they dropped a hard fought 69-64 contest. The boys were led by Josh Hoods’ 17 points. Josh Hart added 15 points and 6 rebounds for the Cobras.
The Lady Cobras were victorious against the Green Wave of Cathedral 55-20. Anne Shelby Davis had a stellar evening with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Marion Allen and Summer Rials chipped in 16 and 8 respectively.
The Wesson boys rebounded Friday evening at Pelahatchie by whipping the Chiefs 66-28. Lonnie Reeves led all scorers with 21 points. Cody King swished 9 points and Josh Hart commanded the boards with 14 rebounds and 7 blocked shots.
The Lady Cobras ran into an experienced buzz-saw at Pelahatchie. The Lady Chiefs ripped the young Cobras 68-28. Leah Greer paced Wesson with 7 points while Allen contributed 6 points.
Saturday evening saw the Wesson Cobras in Vicksburg where they faced the Flashes of St. Al. The Cobras escaped victorious 63-55 after coach Ron Kessler was ejected from the game. The Cobras were up 20 points when Kessler was assessed the 3rd Wesson technical and ran from the game. The officials did not interpret the rule correctly and Kessler should have stayed. Nonetheless, the Cobras head into Thanksgiving week at 3-1. Matthew Cliburn paced the Cobras with a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds. Lonnie Case scored 21 for the 3rd time this year and King stole 6 balls.
The Lady Cobras also go to 3-1 with a 44-31 decision over the Lady Flashes. Anne Shelby Davis had 12 points and Allen kicked in 11 in the victory.
“Both teams have played well,” stated boys coach Ron Kessler. “We wanted to be 4-0, but we have played well at 3-1.” The Cobras will enjoy a Thanksgiving break this week.
