South team wins MPSA

The Copiah Academy Colonels were well represented Friday night, Dec. 7, at Robinson-Hale Stadium in Clinton, where the South All-Stars won the MPSA All-Star Football game 32-22.  
Senior quarterback, Daniel Sims, son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Sims of Crystal Springs and Mrs. Sharon Towns of Brandon, was a captain for the South All-Star team and saw plenty of action on both offense and defense Friday night.  In 2007, Sims gained 369 rushing yards on 119 attempts, and added 2,213 passing for a total of 2,582 yards. He threw the ball 273 times last season and completed 133 for 2, 213 yards and 19 touchdowns.  Daniel’s record as a starting quarterback at Copiah Academy is a remarkable 32-8.
Senior running back/linebacker, Brandon Greer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Greer of Crystal Springs, was the starting cornerback for the South All-Stars and he also played on special teams.  With 3 minutes remaining in the game Friday night, Greer’s interception helped seal the win for the South.  In 2007, Greer gained 755 yards rushing on 133 attempts and caught 31 passes for 374 yards.  His total all-purpose yards of 1278 rank high in MPSA records. Brandon ended his 2007 football season at Copiah Academy  with 14 touchdowns.
