Lessie Lack Thornton, 104, formerly of Crystal Springs, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at The Nicholas Center in Madison.
Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 18, from Stringer Family Chapel with interment in New Zion Cemetery.
Mrs. Thornton was born July 27, 1903 in Smith County to William and Minnie Lack. They moved to Crystal Springs where she married Jim Thornton who preceded her in death in 1967. She worked as a homemaker and seamstress until she retired.
She was a long time member at New Zion Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for man y years. She also enjoyed activities in the 50+ Club. Later she moved to the Home Place in Madison and was active in Sunday School at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Due to health limitations she later moved into the Willard F. Bond Nursing Home and the Nicholas Center until the time of her death. She was a devout Christian and loved sharing her Christian faith with others.
Survivors include: sons, Ray Thornton and his wife Annette of Tupelo, William F. “Bill” Thornton and his wife Billie Jean of Clinton; and Lloyd Thornton and his wife Frankie of Madison; sisters, Allie Ates and Willie B. Brown; brother, Gaitha Lack, all of Crystal Springs; seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and also two great great grandchildren.
