Traffic accident leads to drug arrest

DRUGS CONFISCATED – Local police confiscated three pounds of marijuana during the investigation of a minor traffic accident last week.

On December 20 a minor traffic accident occurred on Mississippi Highway 28 in the city limits of Hazlehurst. One of the vehicles involved in the accident left the scene and was stopped moments later by officers on Interstate 55.

During the accident investigation it was discovered that there was a large amount of marijuana in the vehicle. About three pounds of marijuana was found hidden in the vehicle.

The occupants were transporting the marijuana from Louisiana to Illinois. All three occupants were from Illinois and are now facing drug charges.
