Emily “Vi” Viola Stringfield Harrell
Emily Viola “Vi” Stringfield Harrell, 94, of Hazlehurst, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at St. Dominic Hospital.
Services were held Friday, Jan. 18, from First Baptist Church with interment in Hazlehurst Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Harrell was a native of Spring Creek, Louisiana where she graduated from Spring Creek High School and furthered her education at Baton Rouge General Hospital School of Nursing, completing her clinicals at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, graduating in 1931. She was an avid LSU fan. She had lived in Hazlehurst since 1938. She was the last surviving member of the Stringfield family. Mrs. Harrell was a member of First Baptist Church, Hazlehurst. She continued her nursing career, caring for her beloved son, John Bruce Harrell, who preceded her in death in 1998.
Survivors include: her husband, Hollis Harrell; son, William C. “Billy” Harrell of Hazlehurst; grandchildren, Bonnie Jean Harrell of Brandon, Emily Elizabeth “Beth” Jordan and husband Ed of Yazoo City, William Claiborne “Billy” Harrell, II and wife Wendy of Hazlehurst; Jennifer Ann Cora and husband Chris of Byram; great grandchildren, Georgia Jordan, Johnna Jordan, Emily Anne Harrell, Anna Katherine Harrell, Morgan Cora, Lexi Cora, and Paxton Cora.
