Colonel soccer nets 2 wins

The Copiah Academy soccer team got back to its winning ways, thrashing the Chamberlain Hunt Cadets 8-1 at Port Gibson and blanking the Brookhaven Academy Cougars there.
CA’s Scotty Reese scored the first of his four goals against Chamberlain Hunt in the first minute of play. He added another goal moments later and then scored again before halftime. Also scoring in the first half was senior forward Nathan Madison. The Colonels led 4-1 at intermission.
The second half was more of the same as CA got goals from Richard Henley, Reese, Madison, and Brandon Greer. Head coach Jamie Madison moved Greer, ordinarily a stopper on defense, up to forward in the second half, allowing the senior to score the first goal of his varsity career.
Against Brookhaven, Nathan Madison scored Copiah’s first goal when he followed up on a shot by Reese in the first two minutes of the second half. Four minutes later, Reese scored off Kimber Dear’s assist to up the lead to 2-0. Alex Guess scored CA’s last goal on a header off Kimber Dear’s corner kick in the 13th minute.
“I challenged the guys today to make this a championship caliber game since the South State championship is dangling out there for us to take,” said head coach Madison. Copiah is on the verge of winning its second straight South State Championship.
In addition, the Colonels have scheduled a tentative match at Parklane this Thursday against Presbyterian Christian, the #2-ranked MPSA team in the state.
