It’s State Tournament time! Winners of today’s and Thursday’s games will play in the Big House next week!

Four high school basketball teams from Copiah County are still alive in post-season play and will participate in the MHSAA state tournament, which begins today, Monday, February 18.

Hazlehurst’s boys will play at Southeast Lauderdale on Tuesday night at 7 o’clock.  The Indians, 16-10 and the third place team from Region 6-3A after falling to Crystal Springs 77-64 in the semi-finals of the Region 6-3A tournament last Thursday, are facing the runners-up from Region 5-3A.  Southeast Lauderdale fell 44-37 to Morton in Friday night.

Wesson’s girls are hosting the first round of the playoffs tonight after securing a second place finish in the Region 6-2A tournament last week.  The Lady Cobras defeated St. Andrew’s on Wednesday, then beat Hinds AHS in Thursday’s semi-final to secure the home first-round game.  In Friday’s championship, Loyd Star stopped the Lady Cobras and took home the Region 6-2A gold.

Both Crystal Springs teams advanced in 3A play.  The Tigers won the 6-3A crown by defeating Raymond 54-52 in Friday’s championship game.  They will host Choctaw Central, Region 5-3A fourth, on Tuesday at 7 p.m.  The Lady Tigers fell to Raymond Friday evening in the championship game, and, as the 6-3A girl’s runners-up, will host Choctow Central’s girls, Region 5-3A third, today at 7 p.m.

Winners of today’s and tomorrow’s games will play on Thursday.
