Newton knocks Lady Cobras out of 2A tournament
BY BRADLEY CROW
The youthful Lady Cobras of Wesson found themselves in a beehive against the Lady Tigers of Newton as the Lady Tigers long range shooting and full court pressure defense ended the Lady Cobras season 58-29 in Wesson Monday night.
The #2 seeded Lady Cobras (20-13) were unable to get out of the starting blocks and fell to the #3 seeded Lady Tigers from District 5 in a contest that marked the final game of the season for Wesson. The Lady Cobras amassed a memorable season considering they lose no seniors and sport only one junior on the squad. Head coach Hugh Webb can only be happy for the year that his Lady Cobras turned in.
“I’m proud of what these girls did this year,” commented Webb. “This group can only get better and we look forward to next year already.”
The Lady Cobras were led by sophomore guard Macie Case who scored 10 points in the losing effort. Sophomore Danielle Tadlock had 7 points and 5 rebounds in the game. Sophomore Ann Shelby Davis was held to only 6 points on a frustrating evening. The Lady Tigers were led by Shakara Edwards 22 points.
Big things are in store for this young squad as they hit the weight room to get stronger and contend for a district championship next year.
