School board election Saturday
Copiah County voters will go to the polls on Saturday, March 1, to elect a member of the Hazlehurst City School District Board of Trustees.
The election will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the school district central office located at 119 Robert McDaniel Drive in Hazlehurst.
Voters participating in the election must live outside the Hazlehurst city limits but inside the Hazlehurst City School District.
Incumbent school board member Jessie Jones faces four opponents on Saturday: Marvin Minor, Paul Rhodes, Gloria Sandifer, and Rowan Torrey.
Three members of the Hazlehurst City School District Board of Trustees are appointed by the Hazlehurst Board of Aldermen. Currently serving are Dr. Bettie McDaniel, appointed in April 2004; David Huntington, appointed in December 2004; and Rev. Wyatt Lewis, appointed in February 2006. Rev. Martin Washington was elected in March 2007. Board members serve for five year terms.
