Minor, Rhodes headed to runoff
Two candidates head for a runoff election on Saturday, March 15, for a seat on the Hazlehurst City School District Board of Trustees.
Marvin Minor led the field on Saturday with 266 votes. Minor will face challenger Paul Rhodes in the runoff. Rhodes received 122 votes in Saturday’s election.
Also on the ballot were Gloria Sandifer, who received 91 votes; Rowan Torrey, with 67 votes, and incumbent board member Jessie Jones who received 61 votes.
Results were unofficial at press time, with 15 affidavit ballots yet to be certified. As both of the leaders had a sufficient lead to qualify for the runoff, the affidavit ballots should not affect the outcome.
The runoff election will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the school district central office located at 119 Robert McDaniel Drive in Hazlehurst.
Voters participating in the election must live outside the Hazlehurst city limits but inside the Hazlehurst City School District.
If additional information is needed contact Eva Thomas, administrative assistant, at the central office, 601-894-1152.
UPDATE
Of the 15 affidavit ballots cast, four were good. One vote was cast for Minor, one for Rhodes, and two for Sandifer.
