Copiah County residents will soon see their local Wal-Mart expand to a new Wal-Mart Supercenter with a full line of groceries and a greater selection of merchandise.
The relocated store will present $18,000 in donations to local organizations in honor of its grand opening.
Located at 527 Lake St., the new store celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday, March 5 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. and opened shortly after.
The local economy is expected to receive a boost from the new Supercenter, with increased sales and tax dollars benefiting the Hazlehurst community.
“We have the opportunity to bring the people of Hazlehurst more than Wal-Mart value and convenience,” said store manager Rich Brumfield. Brumfield began his Wal-Mart career as an hourly associate in 1998 in McComb.
“We’re all excited about providing our neighbors with a hometown Wal-Mart they can be proud of.”
During the past 22 years, the store has focused on serving the needs of the area. Wal-Mart entered the local community in 1986 when it opened its store at 110 Market Place. The new Supercenter will provide a wider selection of merchandise, including groceries.
The new 153,000-square-foot store will serve customers from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. The store plans to employ approximately 320 associates.
