Former Hazlehurst teacher and principal Marvin Minor is the newest member of the Hazlehurst City School District Board of Trustees. Minor beat Paul Rhodes in Saturday’s runoff election 297 votes to 171.
Nine affidavit ballots were also cast, which had not been certified at press time. Everything went smoothly during the runoff election, reports district administrative assistant Eva Thomas.
Minor will be sworn in at the school board meeting on Tuesday, April 8.
“My desire is to work with other members of the board to provide the leadership that is needed to help our district overcome its many deficiencies,” said Minor when he announced his candidacy. “I believe all members of the school community, both individually and collectively, should hold themselves accountable for our school district’s success.”
