Murder suspect surrenders

HAZLEHURST, Miss. (AP) — A man suspected in the murder of 21-year-old Corey Handy and the wounding of a second person is behind bars.

Earnest Jenkins surrendered to Hazlehurst police Tuesday evening and is facing murder and aggravated assault in Monday’s attack at a home in the 100 block of Longwood Street in Hazlehurst.

Hazlehurst Police Department Chief Byron Swilley said Jenkins is wanted for allegedly shooting and killing Handy and wounding Demond Carroll outside the home.

Jenkins is being held in the Copiah County Jail. Bond has not been set.
