Joan Clower Singletary

Joan Clower Singletary, 73, of Crystal Springs, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at University of Mississippi Medical Center. 

Services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday at New Zion Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Services in Crystal Springs is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Singletary was “Mother of the Year” in 1967. She was a teacher’s assistant and drove a school bus for about 30 years.  She was past president of the PTA and active in the Crystal Springs High School Booster Club.  Mrs. Singletary wrote the New Zion News for 40+ years.  She was active in the Home Demonstration Club.  She was a lifetime member of New Zion Baptist Church where she was Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.

Survivors include: her husband of 54 years, Thomas Singletary; sons, Dr. Albert Singletary and wife Laurie, and Larry Singletary and wife Katrina all of Crystal Springs; daughters, Lynette Turnbo and husband Moore, and Dena Chapman and husband Monte all of Crystal Springs; brothers, William Clower of Crystal Springs and John Clower of Monroe, LA; sister, Geraldine Coley of Port Arthur, TX; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
