Countywide Cleanup Day is Saturday, April 12

Copiah County citizens are urged to clean up their cities on Saturday, April 12, as part of Keep Copiah County Cleans spring clean up campaign.

Dumpsters will be located in our municipalities of Hazlehurst, Wesson, Crystal Springs, and Georgetown.  They will also be located at the rural volunteer fire departments for convenient trash disposal.  Trash bags and disposal gloves will be located at all locations.  

The volunteer fire departments hosting dumpsters for the spring cleanup are Allen, Barlow, Bethel, Dentville, Hopewell, Smyrna,  and Stronghope.  A dump truck will be located at the county barn for people living in Beaureguard.  

A list of items accepted in the dumpsters and at the county dumps will be printed in the paper this week.  

Citizens are urged to mark their calendars now and make plans to turn out on April 12th to help clean up the county whether by cleaning up litter along a public roadside or their own property.  Citizens are encouraged to observe also to observe all safety precautions.

The North Dump is located on Highway 27 East, just past Sojourner Trucking and Bankhead Lane.

The South Dump is located on Cline Road. Take Martinsville Road to Tyson Rd, then left onto Dixie Garden Road, then right onto Cline Road.

Everyone using the dumps is asked to follow these guidelines about where to put certain types of trash. The county dumps are closely scrutinized by the Department of Environmental Quality and any violations can result in hefty fines which must be paid out of your tax dollars.


Paper and cardboard, aluminum chairs with plastic strips, floor covering, carpet and carpet pad, plastic, glass, televisions, concrete blocks, grass, leaves, flowers and tree limbs (cut up), clothing, furniture – couch, chairs, mattresses.


Iron, steel, bed frames, bicycles, appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, freezers, washers dryers; lawn care equipment, air or gas tanks.

Vehicle batteries, pesticides, herbicides, vehicle tires, paint


Sawdust, motor or transmission oils, pallets, asbestos, wood paneling, flooring, shingles or roofing materials, sheet rock or other construction site waste, food or kitchen waste

For this event only:  Tires, batteries, empty gas tanks and canisters, empty paint cans and empty pesticide containers may be placed beside the dumpsters.  Used motor oil is excluded.  Please make sure to place these items in separate piles.  The Sheriff’s Inmate Litter Collection Team will collect and  dispose of theses items properly.
