William Roscoe McGee, 86, died Friday, April 4, 2008.
Services were held on Wednesday, April 9 from Christ Temple Cathedral in Chicago, IL and Greater Damascus Church of Christ with Bishop Emery Lindsey and Elder Clifton Goodlow, Jr. officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with Hazlehurst Funeral Home in charge.
He was born in Hazlehurst on March 15, 1921, to Lee and Willianna Green-McGee. He attended St. Peter and Parrish High. In 1942 he married Marie Shannon, who preceded him in death.
He served in the US Army. Upon discharge he returned to Brookhaven and attended Alexander High and Alcorn A&M College where he studied plumbing and electricity.
He moved to Chicago in 1953 with his family. He married Beatrice Fizer in 1957. She also preceded him in death. He worked at Campbell Soup and International Harvest and Fisher.
Survivors include: children, Gloria Smith of Country Club Hills, IL, Brenda (Joe) Phillips of Chicago, IL, Reginald McGee of Hazlehurst and Martha Trueblood of Chicago, IL; siblings, Ora Lee McGee-Booker of Hazlehurst, Gladys McGee-DeMyers of New Orleans, LA, and Nelson (Jackie) McGee of Chicago, IL; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
