Lady Wolves win Region 23 title

REGION 23 CHAMPS! – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves swept through the Region 23 Tournament Saturday and move on to the NJCAA National Tournament in Normal, IL on May 15-17.
CLINTON – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves captured the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Championship by defeating the Hinds Community College Lady Eagles 3-1 in the title game at Traceway Park in Clinton, Ms. The Lady Eagles (34-20) defeated the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs 5-4 earlier in the day to reach the championship game.
The Lady Wolves (31-10) will advance to the NJCAA National Softball Tournament in Normal, Ill., May 15-17. This is the second time in three years the Lady Wolves have won the Region 23 crown and advanced to nationals. The Lady Wolves finished third in the National Tournament in 2006.
“Winning the State Tournament was big but winning the Regional earned us a ticket to Illinois to the Nationals,” said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. “We were not satisfied with just winning State. I’m really proud of the girls for digging in and finishing strong. We are riding as 12-game winning streak and have won 19 of our last 21 games. We had outstanding crowd support, we have some really devoted fans.”
