Mary Ruth Price

Mary Ruth Young Price, 87, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at St. Dominic’s hospital in Jackson.

Graveside services were held Thursday, April 24, at Lakewood Cemetery. Her nephew, The Rev. Thomas Douglas Price, will officiate.

Mrs. Price was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Hazlehurst, to Samuel Lee and Willie Mae Wilson Young. In 1932 her family moved to Jackson, where she graduated from Central High School in 1938 and attended Belhaven College before marrying Milton Eugene Price on Oct. 11, 1940. Mrs. Price returned to school after her children were grown and in 1970 graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught special education at the Little Red School (now Willowood Development Center) in Jackson for a number of years.

Mrs. Price was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Willie Lee Young Harvill; and her brothers, Daniel Newsom Young, James Albert Young, Robert Higdon Young, and Burrell Cordell Young, and husband.

Survivors include: her daughter and husband, Judith Lee Price Waskom and John Bascom Waskom, IV, of Brandon; son, Robert Milton Price of Hudspeth Center; two grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
