SSgt. Wanda Faye Watts-Young

SSGT Wanda Faye Watts-Young, 57, died Saturday, May 3, 2008.

Services were held Saturday, May 10 at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Willie C. Cable officiating. Burial was in the Gallman Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery.

She was born April 18, 1950, in Copiah County to Jodie Mae and Albert Watts. She attended Gallman Chapel School and Holtzclaw Memorial School, and Crystal Springs High School in 1968. She earned an associate in Applied Science degree from Central Texas College and a bachelor of Science degree from American Technological University. She completed her academic career after earning a master’s degree in Public Administration from Texas State University.

She joined the Armed Forces and served ten years. She was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.

Survivors are her husband, Robert L. Young; daughter, Rakiya Alhassan; granddaughter, Rihanna Haines; sisters, Sadie Minor and Ruby L. Catchings of Chicago, IL.
