Volunteer fire fighters earn certification

Fourteen volunteer fire fighters from Copiah County completed the necessary skills to earn recognition from the Mississippi State Fire Academy as Certified Volunteer Fire Fighters on May 3.

Volunteers attending the CVFF class for 2008 include Kim Palmer of Bethel VFD;  Bo Brown, Randy Powell, and Kenneth Carraway Jr of Wesson;  Ethen Thornton, Amber Langford, Mary Hennington, Mark Hennington, Ben Foy and Larry Durr of Smyrna; Joshua Copeland of Hazlehurst; and James Wood of Crystal Springs.

Students went thru 56 hours of classroom training and skills before going to the MSFA. Randle Drane, Copiah County Fire Coordinator, instructed the class with help from members of various volunteer fire departments. Some students attended the classroom part but did not attend the fire academy, including Cletus Thornton, Hardy Kergsien, and William Rhymes of Smyrna, and Jerry Haddock of Bethel.
