The Copiah County Board of Supervisors accepted the tax rolls during Monday’s regular board meeting and authorized advertisement July 16, 23, and 30. Objections must be presented by Friday, August 1. The board will meet again on Monday, August 4, to hear objections, and the tax rolls will be finalized on August 18.
The true value of real property in Copiah County has risen to $764,397,720 for 2008, up from $749,274,710 in 2007. New growth accounts for $3,271,451 of the increase. Total assessed value is $93,495,200, up from $91,886,830 last year.
Personal property rolls show true value of $164,554,667 for 2008 with an assessed value of $24,683,200. This is up from $156,084,200 true value last year and assessed value of $23,412,630. This includes $2,709,180 in new growth.
The grand total of real and personal property, public utility, mobile homes, and automobile values in Copiah County for 2008 is $1,106,873,984. Assessed value grand total is $168,528,460. New growth total is $5,980,631.
The board accepted the bid of Star Services Inc. for a new chiller and equipment for the Chancery Court building totaling $64,885.50. The equipment will be installed over a weekend so as not to disrupt court, the board was told. The new chiller will run more economically at greater efficiency than the old system.
The purchase of a new computer for the sign making equipment was authorized for the 911 office.
Claims were approved totaling $2,072,016.64. This includes about $600,000 in expenses above the usual monthly bills, explained county administrator Ronnie Barlow. Extra expenses include payments on courthouse renovations, quarterly workman’s comp insurance, airport grant payments, and the rebate funds for the fire departments.
Advertisement for bids on the overlay project was authorized. Bids will be received on Thursday, August 14. The project will include portions of fourteen county roads: Beauregard Road, Martinsville Road, Old Utica Road, Dentville-Carpenter Road, Lott Smith Road, Old Red Star Road, Terry-Gatesville Road, West Whitworth Street, Dixie Garden Road, St. Paul Road, Rockport Road, Lee Avenue, Rhymes Road, and County Farm Road.
The board of supervisors will meet again on Tuesday, July 22, at 9 a.m.
