Leola Reese Singleton

Leola Reese Singleton, 97, died Friday, July 11, 2008.

Services were held Friday, July 18, from Hall’s Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Wyatt Lewis officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery with House of Peoples Funeral Home in charge.

She was born May 28, 1911, in Hazlehurst to Homer S. and Eliza Gregory Reese. She attended school at Hall’s Hill and Hazlehurst schools. She later attended school in Greenwood and Alcorn College.

In 1933 she married Henry “Jack” Singleton. She taught school for several years in Copiah County, ran a cafe and a store in Utica.

Survivors include: her husband of 75 years, Jack Singleton; daughter, Delois S. Barnes, Hazlehurst; sons, James Milton Singleton (Shirley Jean) of New Orleans, Robert (Gloria) of Jackson, Charles of Los Angeles, CA and Paul of Magnolia; step-son, Edward of Hazlehurst; 26 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
