Alexander E. Martin died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Services will be on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., New Hope Baptist Church on Watkins Dr. with burial in Autumn Woods Cemetery. Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
He was a native of Port Gibson. He was married to his college sweetheart, Dolly Caston whose death preceded him.
His educational background includes: early years, Claiborne County Training Schools, Port Gibson, MS; B.S. degree in Vocational Agricultural, Alcorn State University; MS degree in Education Administration, Jackson State University. In the interim of his college years and professional career, he served as a Specialist in the Medics Corps of the U.S. Army.
To fulfill his professional career, he served as a Math Instructor in Yazoo City; Principal of Burgess and East Flora High School in Flora; Principal of Carter High School in Brandon; Coordinator of Federal Programs for the Rankin County School System, and Assistant Superintendent of Education for the Rankin County School System.
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, first Chairman of the New Hope Christian Elementary School Board, and a trustee.
He was also a member of the Mississippi Association of the Elks I.B.P.O. of World where he served as State Educational Director. He was a member of the Metro Jackson and National Alcorn State Alumni Association and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Survivors include: one son, Attorney Alexander E. Martin (Karen) of Hazlehurst; two daughters, Gale Martin Howard Cox (Charles) and Sandra Martin Milligan (Michael); seven grandchildren, one great grandson; five sisters; and one brother.
