Registration for sports league August 23

Children and youths wishing to participate in flag football will have an opportunity to register soon.  The sport is sponsored by the Hazlehurst Community Sports League each year.

Boys and girls ages 4 to 12 will need to be registered next Saturday, August 23 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, at the Hazlehurst High School Gym.  Parents need to be ready to pay a registration fee of $25 per child.  A second registration day is set for Saturday, August 30.

Shirley Sandifer, who serves as president of the league, said that the children will participate in their appropriate age groups, most likely the following: 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 and 10-12.  Contests will be played on Saturday mornings with starting times beginning at 10:00.  The games will last around 45 minutes to an hour, and concessions will be available.  All contests will be held at the football field at HHS.

Sandifer also indicated a need for volunteers to fill a variety of roles.  Needed are game officials, coaches, concession workers and others.  “We rely on our volunteers the entire season.  We couldn’t make it without them,” Sandifer said.
