Harris Brand Henley, Sr., 78, of Hazlehurst, an attorney, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at home.
Visitation will be 5pm-8pm Thursday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. Services will be 2pm Friday at Hazlehurst United Methodist Church with interment in Hazlehurst Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst is handling arrangements.
Mr. Henley was born on February 25, 1930, and spent most of his life practicing law in Hazlehurst and Jackson. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi, B.B.A. and LL.B., and Columbia University, LL.M. He was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1951. He married Rebecca Williams of Hazlehurst on September 7, 1950.
An Active member of the Hazlehurst United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday school for over fifteen years. Mr. Henley also served with the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He was involved in many other organizations including the Hazlehurst City School Board, Deposit Guaranty National Bank Board of Directors, Copiah Lincoln Community College Board, Copiah Bank Board of Directors, Copiah County and American Bar Associations, The Mississippi Bar, Commercial Law League of America, and the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Henley was a strong supporter of Copiah Educational Foundation and served on its board of directors for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Saunders Henley and Leonette Brand Henley, and his wife, Rebecca Williams Henley of Hazlehurst.
Survivors include: Dee Rials Henley whom he married October 1, 1994; six sons and daughters-in-law: Harris Brand Henley, Jr. and Rita; James Williams Henley, Sr. and Jane; William Saunders Henley, II and Grace; John Hartfield Henley and Lisa; Charles Patton Henley, Sr. and Kathy; and Ross Eames Henley, Sr. and Rebecca; 15 grandchildren, Harris Brand “Happy” Henley, III; Price Darby Henley; Richard Cunningham Henley; James Williams Henley, Jr. and Keri; Leslie Henley Houston and Forrest; Virginia Jeannine “Jenny” Henley; William Harris “Billy” Henley; Rebecca Henley Moffett and Ben; Sarah Henley Ulmer and Joe; Margaret Kathleen “Katie” Henley; Charles Patton Henley, Jr.; Kelley Frances Henley; Ross Eames Henley, Jr; Morgan Rebecca Henley, and Virginia Joyce Henley. He had three great grandchildren: Jane Adair Houston and twins, Noah James Henley and Jackson Williams Henley.
