Copiah County residents will begin paying a few dollars more for garbage collection beginning in November. The Board of Supervisors authorized an increase to $15 per month, up from the current $12 per month rate, to cover increased costs in the sanitation department.
Waste Management’s contract with the county allows the contractor to raise their price according to Consumer Price Index increases.
The solid waste collection fee affects those citizens living outside the cities, whose garbage is collected under the county’s contract.
The board also authorized their attorney to respond to Waste Management’s back billing for the CPI increases for the past several months.
In other sanitation matters discussed at the county board meeting, the Town of Wesson has asked the county to bring their community under its contract for solid waste collection, to make it more affordable for Wesson citizens. The county and town will study the matter further before taking action.
