Josh Hood breaks Wesson 3-point record

Wesson’s new single-game three point leader is senor Josh Hood.

Wesson senior basketball player Josh Hood hit 9 long range bombs to help his team defeat St. Aloyisius 78-58 in Vicksburg on Tuesday evening, November 11.

Hood was 9 of 12– for 75% – from beyond the arc and finished with 27 points.  He finished 9 of 14 overall.  The nine 3-point goals is the most in a single game in the Cobras’ history.  The past 3-point record was held by Josh’s cousin, the late Brandt Hood, who made 8 in a game against Piney Woods on December 12, 2006.  Brandt was 8 for 13 from long range that night.

The Cobras made a total of 11 three’s against St. Al, with Cody King and Gib Britt adding one each.  King, a senior, also contributed with 14 points and 5 assists, while the other senior on the team, Jamar Sims, added 10 points and 6 assists.

The win improved the Cobras’ record to 3-0.  Other victories have come over Copiah Academy and Dexter.

The Lady Cobras also picked up their third win of the year to improve to 3-0.  Wesson outscored St. Al 69-39.  Like the Cobras, other victories have come over Copiah and Dexter.

The Lady Cobras were led by Ann Shelby Davis with 16 points and 4 steals.  Ansley Schimmel added 8 points and Madison Rials and Summer Rials each had 7 points.

Both Wesson teams play Thursday at Pelahatchie.  Game times are 4:30 for JV girls, 5:15 for JV Boys, 6:00 for Varsity girls and 7:15 for varsity boys.
