Hazlehurst knocked out of playoffs
Franklin County rolled into McDaniel Stadium on Friday night expecting a fight from the Hazlehurst Indians. They got what they expected, and gave even more, winning 35-20 on this rainy Friday evening.
The Indians struck first with Crump’s 51 yard score. Fair’s 2-point conversion put the Indians ahead 8-0 early in the game.
The Bulldogs weren’t phased and scored when Collins broke off a 17 yarder. Then Collins completed a pass to King for 20 yards to lead 14-8 after one quarter.
Indian runner Fuller gave the lead back to Hazlehurst on an electrifying 80 yard run in the third to even the score at 14.
Collins then added a 45 yard scamper to retake the lead for the Bulldogs. The successful PAT increased the Bulldog lead to 21-14.
Speedy Indian quarterback Durr got Hazlehurst back within one when he hit Fuller for a 52 yarder in the fourth quarter. The Indians had closed the gap to 21-20 early in the period.
Franklin got a 20 yard run from Collins to go up 28-20 with a little under 5 minutes to play, forcing the Indians to press down the field to tie the game. But, the Bulldogs ended the home team’s hope with an interception at 1:20 left in the game. Franklin added an insurance score on a 49 yard run by Smith with just under 30 seconds left.
The Indian finished 8-3 and with a perfect 5-0 mark in 6-3A.
