The Hazlehurst Christmas Parade is shaping up to be another good parade with a number of floats competing for the first place prize. Of course, there will be Santa Claus throwing candy to the children. There will also be motorcycles, trucks, cars, horses, Smokey the Bear, marching bands, and other interesting participants.
The Grand Marshal this year will be Emma Newsome, who at 101 years of age has lived through much of Copiah County history and she may be the oldest person in the county.
The parade will be on Monday, December 8, at 6 p.m. The route will be the same as last year.
Adult choirs will be singing on the island in front of the Courthouse starting at 5:30 p.m. and youth choirs will sing at the Pavilion also beginning at 5:30. Pictures with Santa Claus will be taken at the Depot Museum starting at 4:30 p.m.
The Hazlehurst Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors this event and encourages everyone to come out and enjoy the singing and the parade.
