L.D. Posey, 93, of Union Church, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at University Medical Center.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home at the Natchez Avenue location, and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at Union Church Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, from Union Church Baptist Church in Jefferson County with interment following in the church cemetery.
Mr. Posey was born in Union Church on Dec. 30, 1914, to Irvin Lee and Alda Armitta Rodriguez Posey.
He attended Piedmont School in Jefferson County and was a graduate of the Jefferson County Agricultural High School in Union Church. Later, L.D. married Mary Ruth Williamson on Sept. 25, 1943.
He was a decorated World War II veteran, earning among other medals the Bronze Star for distinguishing himself by meritorious service in connection with a military operation against an enemy of the United States. After World War II, he began work with the Brown and Root Construction Company which was in the process of constructing the Texas Eastern Natural Gas Transmission Station in Union Church. After the completion of construction, he began employment with Texas Eastern at the new plant where he became a senior operator and later retired in 1980. L.D. enjoyed a long, happy and blessed life in his retirement years where he spent many days with his wife of 65 years, Mary Ruth. He enjoyed farming with his 8-N Ford tractor, hunting, and helping raise his four grandchildren. He was a member of Union Church Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his sisters, Flora Mae Posey, Welma Laine Posey and Allie Lee Posey, and two brothers, Dempsey Felice Posey and Ralph Haskel Posey.
Survivors include: wife, Mary Ruth; sons, Lynn and Robin Posey and their wives, Kathy and Ellen; and four grandchildren, Hunter, Kaitlyn, Clay and Emily.
