Indians march into South State quarterfinals
The run-and-gun Hazlehurst Indians ran another team out of the Indians’ gym Tuesday night. This time, the victim was West Marion, and the final was 80-70.
Cedric Walker led the Indians with 23, and Fred Fuller poured in 21. Justin Durr (14) and Gabriel Gray (12) were the other Indians in double figures.
The Indians’ high pressure, full-court game allowed them a 38-31 lead at halftime. By the end of the third period, Hazlehurst was on top 60-48. In the fourth quarter, the Indians led by as many as 21 before West Marion clawed back to cut it to 10.
Hazlehurst, 20-8, is coached by Tim McDaniel. The Indians won the district 6-3A tournament last week for the third year in a row. Hazlehurst now travels to Morton to face Wilkinson County on Thursday night at 8:30.
