Clinton W. Martin, Sr. died March 6, 2009, at the age of 84, at his home in Wesson after a brief illness. Mr. Martin was a native of Pike Co., MS, but had resided in Wesson since 1999. He was the son of Fred Marshall Martin and Martha Brumfield Martin and was raised on a farm near Felder’s Campground. He attended Carter’s Creek school and Southwest MS Community College.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bettye Jayne Hudson Martin of Wesson; one daughter, Gerry Martin Daughdrill and husband Dr. Roy Wilson Daughdrill of Wesson; one son, Dr. Clinton W. Martin, Jr. of Ocean Springs; one grandson, Jaron W. Martin of Gulfport; two sisters, Alma Martin McCullough Boyd of the Felder’s Campground Community and Geraldine Martin Brown of Madison, MS; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend and neighbor Diane McIntyre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Alice Martin Pate; and six brothers, Sam Olen Martin, Murry Hilton Martin, Lloyd A. Martin, Billy B. Martin, Marshall E. Martin and John H. Martin.
Mr. Martin was a self-taught watchmaker, and during his first career worked at Hainer’s and Selman’s jewelers in McComb. His self-acquired knowledge of electronics led to many years of enjoyment as an amateur radio operator (K5JMD) and a second career in the audio/visual department of the McComb Public School System. He retired from the latter in June 1990, after 22 ? years.
Mr. Martin was a member of Decell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wesson. He will be remembered as a kind and loving father and husband, and for his unique sense of humor. He derived great pleasure from helping others.
Services were held at Decell Memorial United Methodist Church, and interment was in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.
