Copiah drops Game 1 to CPS

Copiah’s big guns rolled into the northern edge of Baton Rouge on Tuesday evening, hoping to pop Central Private in the mouth and win game one of the South AA baseball championship series.  The Colonels popped the Rebels early, but could not hold on, falling 11-10.

Copiah, leading 4-3 in the top of the sixth, struck for six runs in the frame.  Hunter Renfroe’s single scored two runs, then Scotty Reese doubled in two more.  The Colonels picked up two more runs to lead 10-3 after 5 1/2 innings.

The Rebels battled back, picking up four runs in the sixth and striking for four more in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

Renfroe, a junior, also added a two run shot in the first inning.

Copiah fell to 24-3, while CPS improved to 32-3.

The series moves back to Gallman on Thursday night for game two.  The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
