Copiah 9s & 10s in hunt for title

BY BRADLEY CROW

The Copiah County 9-year old All-Star team celebrated a state championship last season, now with another year of experience under their belt, take aim for the 10-year old title.

The 10-year old all stars lost three familiar faces that will aid the 9-year old squad once again.  Bryce Chapman, Will Lingle, and Maddox Henry will try to repeat as 9-year old state champs after staying back within their age group.

“We lost our pitcher that was on the mound when we lost the state title game,” commented 10s head coach Marty Torrence.  “Those losses hurt, but we have three guys who can step in and help us get better.”

The 10-year old Copiah team consists of Colton Medders, Dylan Torrence, Brad Jones, Landon Murphy, Connor Chapin, Jay Holloway, Tyler McKinney, Thomas Smith, Peyton Smith, Austin Ragland, Noah Chappa, and Kyzar Williamson.

The team is coached by head coach Torrence, James Ragland and Cecil Jones.  They travel to Natchez to begin their quest for another state title.

Head coach Wayne Henry is excited about this year’s Copiah 9’s.  Three holdovers from the state championship squad help with experience.

The 9-year old all star team includes Bryce Chapman, Will Lingle, Caston Granger, Maddox Henry, Alex Walker, Bo Townsend, Alex Bufkin, Jay Smith, Corbin Garris, Levi Brunt, LaDarius Stovall, and Jared Thornton.

Henry is assisted by David Brunt and Stanley Smith.  They began play Tuesday evening at Copiah Academy against Wesson.
