County breaks ground on Advance Lane project

GROUNDBREAKING AT INDUSTRIAL PARK – From left, Allen Oswalt, president of MMI; Perry White and Dee Dee Haygood of Advance Auto Parts; Mickey Milligan and Jimmy Ware of Mississippi Development Authority; supervisors Jimmy Phillips and Kenneth Powell; Joe Johnson, county engineer; supervisors Terry Channell and Earl Dixon; and Ronnie Barlow, county administrator.

Officials broke ground last Monday on a $750,000 investment to widen Advance Lane in the industrial park and offer more tangible reasons for industries to locate to the park in Gallman.

Copiah County Economic Development District Executive Director Neil Honan said that the year-long project to obtain the $750,000 Katrina CDBG would not have been possible without the good work of the partners involved, such as MDA, Mitzi Stubbs of CMPDD, the industries in the industrial park, the Copiah County Board of Supervisors, and the CCEDD board.

“This project shows firstly that a team effort is needed to improve economic development, or job creation, and secondly that Copiah County and its partners are serious about seeking industrial prospects,” Honan said.
