Arena Johnson Newells

Arena Johnson Newells, 90, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009.

Services were held Saturday, Aug. 8, from Sardis Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Robert C. Daniels officiating. Arrangements were handled by House of Peoples Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Wesson to the late Ed and Willie Johnson. On Feb. 12, 1939, she married Alfred Newells and they had one daughter. She spent many years working at the Box Factory and Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Rosie Tanner and sisters, Dora Johnson, Geneva Thompson, Lena ford and Lurenza Handy.

Survivors include: sisters, Clemontine (John) Frazier and Ernestine Green of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren and 3 great grandsons
