Colonels defeat Riverfield to start 1-0

Copiah notched two first half scores to take a 14-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.  The first came on a 1 yard plunge by QB Hunter Renfroe in the first quarter.  The second came on RB Ben Boone’s 28 yard catch and run from Renfroe in the second period.

Riverfield RB Cater dove over from one yard after a late Copiah second quarter turnover to get the Raiders on the scoreboard just before halftime.

The Colonels added three TD’s in the third period to put the game out of reach.  Boone ran 33 yards, Kelton Smith notched a 10-yarder and Renfroe scampered 55 yards.  Russ Singleton added two extra points to extend the Colonel lead to 34-7.

Riverfield added a late TD against Copiah’s subs, a 94 yard sprint by RB Rogers with just under 3 minutes left to close the gap to 34-13.

Copiah, 1-0, faces Broohaven Academy, a winner over Silliman Institute last night,  next Friday night in Gallman with kickoff scheduled for 7:00.
