Robert W. “Bubba” Coleman
Robert W. “Bubba” Coleman, 76, of Hazlehurst, died Friday, August 21, 2009, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, LA.
Visitation will be Monday, August 24, 2009 from 5-8pm at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at First Baptist Church, Hazlehurst with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.
He was born one stormy night on January 30, 1933, and resided in Hazlehurst. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Mr. and Mrs. Alvie W. Coleman, his sister Betty Cundeff, and his son Rex D. Coleman all of Louisiana.
Bubba’s professional career spans 60 years starting at the tender age of 16 and coming to an end just days before his passing. Bubba was an expert of the highest degree in his chosen profession of drilling and completing deep high pressure wells and the recompletion of problem wells. He was a regular member of the 4 and 5 Mile Drilling Club and was always looking for a challenge. Taming wild, uncontrollable wells was a lifelong passion for Bubba. He drilled in Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, also in the Gulf of Mexico loving every minute of it.
Bubba was a devoted compassionate family man and enjoyed everything full of life. He will be missed not only by his loving family but also by his many friends in the oilfield.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Tommie J. Coleman; sister Kate and husband Jay Carter of Menden, LA.; son, Rob and wife Badea Coleman of Dubai; daughters, Linda and husband Jimmy McCullough, Jr. of Broussard, LA., Brenda and husband Kenny Bozeman of Hattiesburg; step-children, David and Michael Hallman of Gallman; grandchildren: Leslie Messer, Robbie Coleman, Ryan Coleman, Nick Coleman, Eric Coleman, Chris Bozeman, Angula Cannon, Kristie Cloud, LaShay Collins, Rexanne Coleman, Tina Coleman, Jessica Coleman and 16 great-grandchildren.
