Hospital asks for limited visitation to reduce spread of flu

Until further notice, please do not plan to visit any patients at Hardy Wilson if you have flu-like symptoms.   Restrictions include people who have symptoms including cough, sore throat, fever, chills, runny nose or body aches. We are asking that children 12 years old and younger not visit patients until further notice.

As with any influenza outbreak, people with compromised immune systems and chronic health problems are considered to be at higher risk from the swine flu.

CDC recommends that people with influenza-like illness remain at home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100° F [37.8°C]), or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.

Avoid visiting the patient’s bedside in groups of more than two people at any one time.

Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve or some other way to cover your face.

Avoid bringing children under the age of 12 years old.

Using the alcohol hand rub provided on entering and leaving the patient’s room and wash hands after visiting the toilet.

Not visiting if they are unwell – visitors should be free of symptoms for at least two days prior to visiting.

Not sitting on the patient’s bed – chairs will be provided.

Not sharing toiletries or property with other patients.

Not touching the patient’s wounds or medical equipment to reduce the risk of infection.

Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital staff thanks you for your support in keeping the patients, community and staff healthy!
