Police seek community’s help to solve case
Hazlehurst police hope someone in the community can provide a tip to solve the armed robbery case in which a local resident was held up at gunpoint four weeks ago.
Byron Swilley, Chief of Hazlehurst Police Department, said that Grady Newman, of 226 South Extension Street, was approached at his home a little after 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, by a black male wearing a blue bandanna around his face and brandishing a firearm. After the subject demanded money, Newman handed over two money bags, including a brown one with ‘Hazle Package’ stamped on it, and the subject fled south on Extension Street on foot.
Swilley said that police are relying on information from the public to produce more leads that will result in the arrest of the subject.
Anyone with information may call Crimestoppers at 1-888-8CRIMES (1-888-827-4637) or the Hazlehurst Police Department at 601-894-1181. Remember, the authorities don’t want your name, just your information.
“We are depending on the community to help us solve this crime,” said Chief Swilley. “Please call us with any information, or call Crime Stoppers.”
