Anderson helps close door on ‘Dores

Former Hazlehurst Indian football player Damien Anderson, a starting cornerback for Mississippi State, made history on Saturday evening in the Bulldogs’ 15-3 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville.

Trailing 15-3 with just under three minutes to play, the Commodores attempted a pass deep in MSU territory.  Anderson, defending on the play, picked off the errant pass, ending the Vandy threat and sealing the win for Miss. State, 2-1, 1-1.

Anderson’s interception was the first of his career at Miss. State.  He finished with 3 solo tackles.

On the season Anderson has 9 total tackles, including one tackle for loss, one pass break up and one interception.

He was a member of the 2005 state champion Hazlehurst Indians, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Anderson of Hazlehurst.  Anderson is in his fourth season as a Bulldog.

The Bulldogs, 2-1, 1-1, host LSU, 3-0, 1-0, Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 11:20.
