Wesson, Copiah win; Indians lose
Wesson picked up huge road win last Friday, defeating the Hinds AHS War Dawgs 18-6. Two first half touchdowns sent the Cobras to the break with a 12-0 lead. Cobra WB Deon Pendleton caught the corner of the end zone in the first from 6 yards out. The second score was a 73 yard laser from quarterback Matt Smith to wide open WR D.J. Coleman. The third quarter saw Jeromy Smith reach paydirt to extend the Cobra lead to 18-6 and put the game away. From there the Cobra defense took the fight out of the War Dawgs.
Wesson, 6-0, 1-0, faces arch-rival Loyd Star, 6-0, 1-0, on Thursday night for a 7:00 kickoff at Co-Lin’s Stone Stadium.
Copiah improved to 3-4, 1-1, on the field with a 27-10 thrashing of Presbyterian Christian in Gallman on Friday. The Colonels turned three Bobcat turnovers into touchdowns–a Hunter Renfroe 65 yard interception return, a 20 yard Brandon Smith fumble return and a Kelton Smith score after another interception by Michael Williams was returned 28 yards to the PCS 7– and added a Kelton Smith 75 yard run in the come-from-behind win.
