Colonels win; Indians fall

Sophomore RB Kelton Smith found the end zone early and often in Copiah’s 37-14 win at Leake Academy on Friday night.  In the first quarter, he had TD runs of 81, 6 and 78 yards, helping CA jump to a 27-0 lead in the frame.  WR Brandon Smith added the other Colonel score on a 52 yard pass from QB Ben Boone.

Kelton Smith scored his fourth TD of the evening late in the fourth, a 3 yarder, and Hunter Renfroe nailed a 27 yard FG in the third to round out Copiah’s offensive production.  Leake got a TD in the second and one in the fourth, but was never a threat.

Copiah, 5-3, travels to Parklane Academy next Friday for a conference matchup.  The Pioneers handled Bowling Green 32-6 on Friday.

In Meadville, MS, the Hazlehurst Indians fell hard to the Franklin County Bulldogs, 33-6, in a 6-3A contest. The only score the Indians could muster came late in the game.

The Indians, 5-3, 0-2, hit the road again next Friday to Wilkinson County.
