No. 2 Colonels have good week

HUNTER RENFROE CONNECTS FOR HR, AGAIN – The Copiah senior had one of the best performances of 2010 last week. In four games he was 11-16 with 4 homeruns, 2 doubles and 10 RBI’s. On the season he’s batted .613 with 24 extra base hits, including 17 homeruns. He’s totaled 55 RBI’s through 21 games. The Meridian Community College signee has drawn a crowd of college and pro scouts to nearly every game recently. He’s helped the Colonels move up to #2 in the MAIS poll, up from #5 a week ago. PH

The Copiah Colonels picked up two more district wins last week, winning a series from Parklane Academy two games to one.
On Tuesday, Copiah run-ruled the Pioneers in six innings in Gallman, pounding 15 hits and winning 11-1.  Casey Hurley picked up the win and combined with Trevor Blocker for  6 strikeouts.
Michael Bagley (3-4, 2 runs, double), Colton Brown (2-3, 3 RBI, double), Hunter Renfroe (1-3, 2 RBI, homerun), Ben Boone (4-4, 2 RBI, 2 doubles) and Mitch Little (3-4, 3 runs, homerun) led Copiah’s offense.

12 INNINGS
The two teams played again on Thursday, meeting for a double-header in McComb.
The first game was one for the record books, as both teams battled for 12 innings before the Pioneers finally edged the Colonels.
Down 11-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Pioneers plated 7 runs to tie the game, then won the game in the bottome of the 12th on a walk-off grand slam.
Brown, who worked the final two innings, was pinned the loss.  Copiah was led at the plate by Singleton (4 RBI, homerun) Hurley (3 RBI, homerun), Little (3 RBI, homerun) and Renfroe, who scorched Parklane pitchers for 5 hits in 6 at bats, two doubles, a homerun and 1 RBI.
COPIAH 13, PARKLANE 9
In the second game, the Colonels again built a big lead at 1-7 after 5 innings, but held on to earn the win in the rubber game of the series.
McCrory picked up the win, and Blocker earned a save.  The two pitchers combined for 6 strikeouts.  Renfroe (2-3, 3 RBI, homerun) and Boone (3-4, 4 RBI, 2 doubles, homerun) were the leaders in Copiah’s 15 hit attack.

The Colonels picked up a third win against the Tigers on the road on Saturday.
Copiah’s Asa Newman was the winning pitcher.  Renfroe(3-4,  4 RBI, homerun) and Singleton (3-4) were the leading hitters for Copiah.  Hurley and Brown picked up 2 RBI each.
Copiah, 17-4, plays a key AAA-Div. 2 series this week against Oak Forest, with the first being played on Tuesday in Amite, LA.  The two teams meet again on Thursday in Gallman for a twinbill beginning at 5 p.m.
