The Hazlehurst Chamber of Commerce and Copiah County Veterans Affairs office sponsored the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the courthouse on Monday, May 31, 2010. The MS Army National Guard presented the colors and fired a special salute. Captain Christopher Cooksey, Commander, Company B, 1-155th Combined Arms Battalion, Mississippi Army National Guard, Poplarville, was the guest speaker. He emphasized the importance of small towns in providing future generations of service men and women for the nation.
Attendance was over 60, including Copiah County’s oldest veteran, Frank Davis, who is 91 1/2 years old.
