Doris Thomas Bateman

The memorial service of Doris Thomas Bateman, 96, of Albany, GA who died Tuesday January 4, 2011 at Morningside Assisted Living will be conducted Friday,  January 7, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Pastor Tony Haefs will officiate.

A native of Norfolk, VA, Mrs. Bateman moved to Albany in 1953 from Hazlehurst, MS and resided here until moving back to Hazlehurst in 1974 and returned to Albany in 2000. She was a secretary in the engineering division at the Albany Naval Base until her retirement.

She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and had kept a journal since she was twelve years old. She was an emeritus member of Crape Myrtle Chapter # 163 Order of The Eastern Star and had served as Worthy Matron and had received her fifty year pin.

She was a member of the Hazlehurst United Methodist Church of Hazlehurst, MS and was a former member of Morningside United Methodist Church of Albany. She attended Gillionville Baptist Church since her return to Albany. She was preceded in death by her husband James Andy Bateman.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas A. Bateman (Linda), San Diego, CA and Joseph R. Bateman (Mickie), Leesburg, GA, two grandchildren, Kimberly Cleesattle (Don), Leesburg, GA, Jim Bateman (Michelle), Cumming, GA, four great-grandchildren, Joshua Bateman, Dac Cleesattle, Zoe Cleesattle and Maddie Bateman.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial services at Mathews Funeral Home.
