Billie C. Hutchison

Billie C. Hutchison, 84, of Hazlehurst died Saturday, January 22, 2011. 

Visitation will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 from 5pm-8pm at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.  Visitation will also be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 10am following with funeral services at Bethel Baptist Church at 11am with interment in the church cemetery.  Stringer Family Funeral Services in Hazlehurst is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Hutchison was born on August 20, 1926 in Dawson Springs, Kentucky to  William Carl and Anna Eliza Carmon.  She graduated from Dawson Springs
High School in 1944 and enjoyed many special friendships from those years.
In 1947 Billie worked in the Canteen Services at the VA Hospital in Outwood,
KY.  She met Arnell Hutchison, a native of Choctaw County, MS.  He was a patient
who had recently been discharged from the U. S. Navy in WWII and caught Billie’s
eye.  They married in 1949.  She and her husband moved to Terry, MS, where she
was introduced to her husband’s family.  During their 61 years of marriage they
lived in Dawson Springs, KY, Poplar Bluff, MO, Gainesville, FL, and then retired
in Hazlehurst, MS, to be near family in June of 1980. 

While in Missouri Billie worked as a proofreader for a local newspaper, she also
helped out during elections at voter precincts.  In Gainesville, FL she was the
manger of The Vogue Store, a ladies apparel shop.  In Hazlehurst she was an
employee of The Style Room and later at Classy Fashions.  She retired after it
closed.  After retiring she and her husband would go to yearly Navy reunions
where they were able to go all over the United States seeing great landmarks and
Arnell would enjoy reminiscing old times at sea the his ship mates.  She was a
member of the Homemakers Club and The Jackson Quilters Club where she loved
using her hands creatively and making quilts for her children and grandchildren.
Billie loved the Lord and served Him faithfully.  She was member of Bethel
Baptist Church since 1980.  Her son and daughter always knew she prayed for them
and her grandchildren whom she loved so dearly.
She was preceded in death by her dearly loved grandson, Sam Hutchison of
Camdenton, MO, her brothers, Albert Carman of Dawson Springs, KY, J. B. Carmon
of Russellville, KY and Harvey Carmon of Princeton, KY.

Survivors include: her husband, Arnell Hutchison, children, David and Maggie Hutchison of Camdenton, MO, Carolyn and Dwayne Gammons of Hazlehurst, grandchild, Max Whitmire of McCool, MS.  Billie leaves behind many nephews and nieces who loved her dearly as well as many special friends.
