Indian trio signs with Braves

Hazlehurst football coach and athletic director Todd McDaniel joined three of his student-athletes and their parents at a Signing Day event in the Hazlehurst High School Media Center on Tuesday.  The three students all signed letters – of – intent to attend Alcorn State University beginning in the fall on a football scholarship.

The three signees for the Braves from Hazlehurst are:

  •  Gabriel Gray, 6’2″, 180 lbs., accounted for nearly 300 yards per game and scored 25 TD’s in 2010, but will most likely play defense for the Braves.  Was selected as a Copiah County Courier Super 7 in 2010 and 2009 and was named the Copiah County Courier Offensive Player of the Year for 2010.
  • Leviticus Cain, 6,3″ 230 lbs., was a force on offense with 10 TD’s, but made biggest impact on defense with over 100 takles, including 2 sacks.  Cain was also a member of the 2009-2010 Super 7 and was selected as Best Defensive Player by the Courier.
  • Jamarius James, 5’9″, 169 lbs., was perhaps the most versatile player for the Indians in 2010.  He ran the ball, caught the ball, threw the ball, kicked, punted and played defense.  The Braves will rely on him to handle the kicking duties.
